TKV Desikachar

Son and longest standing student of T Krishnamacharya, he is the direct descendant of a tradition of yoga masters.

As a young man he was able to observe the impressive results of yoga practice amongst his father’s students. After completing his engineering studies he decided to dedicate his life to yoga and became his father’s student for more than 30 years. This long live-in internship has made Mr. Desikachar one of the most respected and influential teachers of modern times and the torch-bearer of his father’s teachings for the current generation.

In 1976, he founded the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) in honor of his father and teacher. The KYM is a non-profit yoga therapy centre where he continues to share and transmit T Krishnamacharya’s teachings in a universal and secular manner.

In 2006, along with his son Kausthub, he founded the Krishnamacharya Healing Yoga Foundation (KHYF), the global umbrella organization for yoga teachers, trainers and therapists in this tradition.

Desikachar authored several books: “Health, Healing and Beyond”, “The Heart of Yoga”, “The Viniyoga of Yoga”, to name a few. Since 1960 Desikachar has traveled all over the world to teach yoga. Students come from around the world to study with him in Chennai, India.
