Being in Yoga

Being in Yoga was started in 2005 by Valerie Faneco. We are a small group of yoga teachers committed to transmitting yoga according to the method of T Krishnamacharya as taught at the KYM (Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram) in Chennai, India.

Being in Yoga is the first yoga school in Singapore that is fully dedicated to yoga in the lineage of this great master.

Our intimate belief is that a student must start from where he or she is, not from where we, as teachers, would like them to be. For this reason, “teaching yoga not as it applies to our self, but as it applies to the one in front of us” is the core of our values.

We offer one-on-one personalized yoga instruction for health, healing, well-being and personal transformation. We also offer small specific group classes, Vedic chanting, lectures about yoga and healthy living, and a 2.5 years yoga teacher training course.

What sets us apart?

Specific individualized instruction

The following methodology makes our approach comprehensive and unique:

  • We use the complete range of yoga’s tools
  • Yoga therapists are rigorously trained to construct and evolve a practice tailored for one individual.
  • Group classes are always small so that teachers can use their observation skills, provide individual attention and suggest adaptations.
  •  The needs, abilities, interests and goals of each student form an integral part of the process.

A strong lineage

High standards of yoga education: all teachers have a minimum of 500 hours of training, therapists a cumulated minimum of 2000 hours of training and study, spanning over several years.

All our teachers and therapists continue to study, grow and learn through mentoring, personal practice and continuing education. The strong link with a mentor is an essential aspect of our tradition.
